Find out why SC and Columbia is one of the fastest growing areas in the Southeast!

South Carolina Retirement

Home to beautiful beaches, warm weather, charming southern cities, and some excellent golf, South Carolina has long been a popular place for seniors to plan their retirement.

If you are thinking about the best places to retire in South Carolina this website is your source for information and insight into the best places to retire in South Carolina. The Palmetto State is many people's first choice for retirement. This state of 4.8 million people in 2013 has a mild winter climate, low cost of living, and plenty of recreational activities. There are 4 regions in the state: Low Country near the ocean, Sand Hills, Piedmont, and Upstate - which contains an escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It also has southern charm and history.

SC Economy

SC Cost of Living and Economy
Living in South Carolina is less expensive than many other states. Inflation adjusted 2007-11 per capita income of $23,854 was well below the national average. South Carolina’s median home value was $134,700 in early 2015, according to Zillow (the U.S. median was $178,700. Prices can be higher in selective active adult communities in places like Hilton Head. The Greenville SC median home value index was $166,000, Spartanburg's was $130,900, but in pricier Charleston the median was $215,500 (source: Zillow). South Carolina’s cost of living is the 21st lowest in the nation.

The Second Phase grand opening of The Villas, Executive Construction Homes ' most innovative neighborhood to date in master-planned Woodcreek Farms, is slated to open March 23th, according to luxury home builder, Executive Construction Homes. Located in the newest phase and on the 10th green, The Villas is designed for gracious indoor/outdoor living with a choice of four expansive one- and two-story floor plans. All plans feature the master bedrooms on the main level, luxury features and a maintenance free lifestyle.

“This maintenance free community was carefully chosen to provide our homeowners with beautiful surroundings and convenience to everything you desire; shopping, culture, recreation, educational opportunities, and top rated medical facilities.” Says Owner/Builder, Eddie Yandle. “You (the home buyer), have earned the right to live in a luxury community with luxury features, and leave the maintenance worries to somebody else”.   Applying innovative building knowledge, Eddie Yandle began building The Villas at Woodcreek Farms after analyzing the demand for new homes with more livable space on the main level and the multi-generational household trend sweeping the nation. The Villas floor plans offer luxury included features without sacrificing space as well as Green and Universal Building techniques to appeal to a variety of home-owners that also may have specific needs. Each home has larger hallways, door openings, the option for private secondary suites and hardwired for Z-wave home integration. “As the needs for the homeowner change, the home is also able to adapt” says Eddie Yandle.

Additionally, each of the four floor plans offer the ability for a secondary suite upstairs for guests that can include a wet bar, private bathroom, and an enormous amount of storage options.   Each home has been designed to offer home buyers a large selection of customized features. While some new home buyers are looking for storage features, others may like the tiled pet washing station or a large walk in shower. All homes in The Villas include a large list of luxury features, including tile, hardwoods, and gourmet kitchens with Bosch appliances.

Built with the Advantech and Zip building system from Huber Woods, the homes are extremely energy efficient. A tankless water heater is included as well as a HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score to ensure each home-buyer achieves the greatest available efficiency on their monthly utility expenses. “Current homeowners are ecstatic at the first month after closing, as most find their utility bills have been drastically reduced in comparison to their previous older home.” Says Nicole Davis, New Home Counselor at Coldwell Banker Residential. “We find many folks had thought of remodeling to modernize their current home, but after seeing the value of the community, included features and energy savings, it is no longer a relevant option”

Starting in the low $300’000’s The Villas at Woodcreek Farms is located in a private and gated community near The Members Club at Woodcreek Farms. Home sizes range from 2000 square feet to 3300 square feet.

Dog Treats at Christmas

Besides an “atta boy” and pat on the head from you, the next greatest reward your dog likes is a yummy treat. What’s more, giving your dog a treat makes you feel good, too. The very act of rewarding your best friend with his favorite treat not only reinforces training, but helps solidify the bond you share with your canine companion.

Fortunately, organic Christmas treats are a way you can spoil your dog without giving him an unhealthy snack. If you do not have access to a doggy bakery, you can find several healthy choices online, the healthiest being an organic or all natural treat.

For instance, Pampered Paw Gifts   offers dog lovers organic and all natural products like salt free Christmas doggy cakes made with a rice cake and yogurt frosting, decorated in holiday colors, and trimmed in doggy bones.

The Christmas doggy treats look like pastries that come from a high-end human bakery and are exquisitely decorated in holiday colors in various dog-themed shapes. They not only look good enough for a person to eat for a Christmas treat, but are made with the finest human-grade ingredients. So, if your dog is willing to share with you, there is no harm in taking a nibble.

Other delectable dog treats you can expect to find online are cookies, bon bons, paw prints, paw cups, bones, reindeer, presents, mittens, santa paws, snowflakes, and wag sticks made from a peanut butter recipe and iced with yogurt. All items are free of byproducts, artificial color and flavors, and preservatives.

Listed below are other safe Christmas dog treats:

  • free-range chicken treats for smaller dogs
  • bon bons with yogurt coated snickerdoodle center
  • peanut butter macaroons filled with yogurt coating
  • cake bites made from pumpkin cake ball topped with organic coconut

Let’s face it. Christmas morning is messy. Wrapping paper strews the scene, mugs of hot chocolate are stashed about. Honestly, by 10 a.m. I usually look around my living room and wonder how the tornado hit so fast, and how my lovely decorations could suddenly look so … junky.

That’s why this year I’m taking a pared-down approach, and so can you. Here are a few of my favorite designer tips and tricks for a fuss-free holiday.
1. Just add foliage. One of the most beautiful things I ever saw during the holidays was at a restaurant I used to frequent in Venice Beach. Its walls were all white, and up near the molding, fresh green garlands, peppered with tiny white lights, were swagged across the room. There were no ornaments, no ribbons, but there was something really magical about it (and it worked so beautifully that they actually kept it like that all year round). This staircase takes a similar approach. Simple, approachable, lovely and festive.
2. Add faux fur. Call me crazy, but if Christmas morning meant lounging on a deck wrapped up in something furry, I’d pretty much be in heaven. You can keep the presents, stockings and even the twinkly lights (though I am rather partial to them). Faux fur instantly winterizes any decor. Isn’t that what decorating for the holidays is all about? READ MORE ON HOUZZ
